About  TOEFL

The TOEFL, or Test of English as a Foreign Language, is a globally recognized, systematized English language test used to assess international students' English proficiency in Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing, as the English Language Test score is crucial in the overseas education admission procedure. More than 11,000 universities in over 150 countries accept the TOEFL test certificate, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. TOEFL is one of the world's two most popular English language tests.

Since its inception in 1964, the ETS TOEFL test syllabus and methods have matched the expectations of universities and institutions. The most recent revision was in 2005, and the test is now known as the TOEFL iBT test. The test includes tasks that determine whether the candidate's Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking skills meet the standards of today's high-quality academic environments.

Types of TOEFL Exam

The Educational Testing Service organizes the TOEFL exam in two modes.

Internet-Based
Test (TOEFL IBT)

The TOEFL Internet-Based Test (TOEFL IBT) is the online version of the TOEFL test for candidates who want to take their exam. The TOEFL-IBT test is the most popular, with over 90% of students taking the exam via the internet. The TOEFL-IBT exam is divided into four sections: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Students are required to complete all parts on a computer equipped with a camera and microphone. Because the IBT test pattern lacks a separate section to assess candidates' grammar knowledge, the writing section is scrutinized in depth.

Paper Based
Exam (TOEFL PBT)

TOEFL PBT is an English language test that is administered on paper. The TOEFL PBT test format differs from the Internet-based Test in that it includes a separate essay section. Applicants who do not wish to take an internet-based test may opt for PBT. The recordings in the Paper Based Test's listening section are shorter than those in the IBT.
